The short version: no accounts, no email list, and nothing you type into a calculator ever leaves your device. From August 2026 we do count which pages get read, and the site carries Google AdSense. Both are spelled out below.
What stays on your device
Your suburb/state and your “My Home” tally are stored in your browser's local storage so the site remembers you between visits. They are never transmitted to us. Clear your browser data and they're gone. The same goes for every number you type into a calculator: the sums run in your browser and the answer is never sent anywhere.
What we don't do
There are no accounts here and no email collection, and we don't sell data. We don't know who you are and we like it that way.
Analytics
Since August 2026 the site runs Google Analytics 4, which tells us which pages people read, roughly which country and state they are in, and which calculators actually get used. It sets cookies and it means Google receives your IP address. We use it to decide what to build next, and that is the only reason it is here. If you would rather not be counted, Google publishes an opt-out add-on, and any browser set to block tracking scripts stops it too. Nothing on this site breaks if you do that.
Advertising
EcoGuide carries Google AdSense, which is what keeps it free. Google and its partners may use cookies to personalise ads based on your browsing; you can control this at Google Ads Settings, and read how Google uses data at policies.google.com. We hold ourselves to a limit on purpose: no pop-ups, no interstitials, no video that starts by itself, and never an ad between a calculator's inputs and its answer.
Like nearly every website, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, pages requested) for security.
